"Former Ottawa defenceman Mark Borowiecki, who made the decision to test the UFA market last month, signed a two-year deal with the Nashville Predators worth $2 million per season."

Mi komolyan nem voltunk kepesek neki ennyit kifizetni?:falbav:

Olvastam ma egy cikket egyebkent Don Brennan-tol (helyi riporter) amit meg juniusban irt.Tokeletesen osszefoglalta a lenyeget Boroval kapcsolatban:

"You want a veteran presence for your green blue line? How about Borowiecki, whose been with the organization for a decade and sacrifices life and limb every time he pulls on the jersey?Nobody has more character, nobody is more loyal, there’s no better example that you’d want the young defencemen to follow.

Is there concern Borowiecki hasn’t played more than 53 games in any of the last three seasons? Perhaps, but the reason he has missed so much time is because every night he recklessly throws his body in front of oncoming opponents and pucks, and he’ll fight anyone who takes advantage of teammates — even when he can’t lift his punching arm.

When the 2020-21 season rolls around it will be almost a year between games for the former Smiths Falls Bear, who managed to lead the Senators defencemen in scoring with seven goals despite playing his last game on Feb. 13. He should be as good as new when the tremendous excitement for another campaign hits a crescendo.

It can’t be a money thing. Borowiecki’s cap hit was a paltry $1.2 million, so it’s unlikely he’s looking for anywhere near what the Senators were probably prepared to pay Hainsey, who’s eight years his senior.

Is he looking for more term than the Senators want to give? Maybe, but he’s also a realistic guy, and heaven forbid they reward him with a little security for all he’s done, and what he can still do.

Instead, they let Borowiecki twist in the wind, wondering where he’s going to work next year, considering the possibility of moving his young family.

It’s so disrespectful to a great Ottawa guy who has become a face of the franchise, but it’s also nothing new for the Senators. They did something similar to another local product, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, who only really wanted to know if he was staying or going before they finally moved him at the deadline.
All these young hot prospects the Senators are stockpiling better take note. Remember how they left hanging two of the most respected veterans who wore the logo while growing up as kids, and wanted to keep it on throughout their professional career.

Remember how they mistreated Borowiecki, the heart-and-soul guy they wanted to make a Senator for life.
